We practice patient safety by training others in safety.
We value patient safety because the patient, as a human being, is at the center of our care.
From the outset, we have successfully implemented this guiding principle not only in anesthesia, intensive care, and emergency medicine, but also in other medical specialties. Currently, the basis of our work is also the Declaration of Helsinki on patient safety in anesthesiology, adopted in 2010 by all European anesthesiological societies.
Thereafter:
- Patients have a right to safe medical care.
- Anesthesia plays a key role in perioperative safety.
- Education and training play a central role, especially with regard to safe care in acute medicine.
- The development, dissemination, and improvement of patient safety training measures is fully supported.
- A trusting, collaborative, interdisciplinary team should be the goal.
